The facts
In 2022, mailing out candidates' campaign statements led to an astonishing waste of close to 680 million sheets of A4 paper across the entire election.
That is the equivalent of roughly 170 days' worth of paper for primary schools, at a rate of one sheet per child per day — paper that could have gone to our pupils instead of feeding a political machine that has grown excessive.
My choice
I made a different choice: a sober, useful, consistent, and responsible campaign. I stand by that choice, because I don't believe we can ask the French to make sacrifices without first holding ourselves to the same standard.
My conviction
My conviction is simple: you cannot claim to champion the nation's recovery while accepting, from the very first act of your candidacy, public spending and pollution that we know could be reduced.
A different way of doing politics
I want to embody a different way of doing politics.
I refuse to treat as normal a public exercise that consumes this much money, this much paper, and this much logistics, at a time when our country is asking everyone to make sacrifices.
Political exemplarity
Politics must become exemplary again. Because public money does not belong to candidates — it belongs to the French people.
Because a statesman must lead by example before asking others for effort. Because a presidential campaign should win people over through the strength of its ideas, not the scale of its spending.
My commitment
A sober politics. A responsible politics. A politics that respects the French people. That is my commitment, starting today.
